My Summer as a 2025 PR Intern!

This summer, I had the amazing opportunity to join Hospitality House as a summer Public Relations Intern. As I prepare to enter my senior year at Appalachian State, I’m very grateful for the experience I’ve gained here!

My time at Hospitality House was spent making certificates and social media graphics on Canva, writing emails for the Turkey Trot, filling out spreadsheets for the upcoming Hope Auction, organizing, painting, filing, cleaning, and making TikToks with Josie and Lizzie, my fellow interns and two of the funniest and most wonderful people ever.

Because of this experience, I feel more engaged with my community, which has endured so much since Hurricane Helene. I am endlessly inspired by the passion and tenacity of the Hospitality House team, as well as our residents and clients. Our amazing supervisor, Lexi, always supported our weird video ideas, put up with our dumb questions, and was truly the anchor for our experience here. Josie and Lizzie were the highlight of every single day here, and I will miss our time spent (unsuccessfully) asking everyone in the office to be in a TikTok and taking our trips to Hatchet.

I’m so grateful to Hospitality House for showing me the strength of my community and opening my eyes to everything that goes into supporting our neighbors in need. Thank you to the Hospitality House team for everything. You are truly an irreplaceable pillar of our community!

I hope to see everyone again soon!

Best,

Shannon Ferko
